4 Pound loss - Hooray!

So I lost 4 pounds. Not bad considering I haven’t gotten round to any exercise. I haven’t eaten as healthily as I could have, but I haven’t been eating very much either. I just haven’t been hungry - except at 3am and I refuse to indulge because I certainly don’t need any more bad habits.

I eat porridge for breakfast, made on water with a splash of milk and some honey added at the end. I have been drinking coffee which I want to give up but tea just doesn’t excite me so it’s hard. I made a big pot of vegetable soup on the weekend so have been having that for lunch with some bread. And then steamed veggies and a piece of meat for dinner. I eat fruit and sometimes yoghurt and indulge in the occasional biscuit (I only buy them for the dog - much cheaper than doggie treats and she loves getting special people food - but they’re just so easy to snack on). And toast is my weakness - if I can’t be bothered cooking dinner it’s toast. Tuesday was a bad day for me so I had a chocolate flavoured blow-out. That’s kind of me for the week.

My goals for this week: Eat more veggies and less carbs, and clean out my spare room / gym so I can finally get around to some exercise.

Starting Out 7th June 2008

I find myself much more relaxed about losing weight at the moment. The past few years have been somewhat of a frantic rollercoaster ride of yo-yo dieting and feeling like a total failure. I turned 30 in April this year and I feel somehow different. Maybe I’m finally starting to grow up.  I’m tired of never being happy with myself. I’m tired of wasting so much energy on ridiculous fad diets and exercise programs so extreme they burn you out in the first week. I just want to be healthy and happy. I don’t really care if I don’t reach my ideal weight as long as I’m healthy.

A few years ago my sister and I both lost a heap of weight. At the time we still thought we were totally fat but we found photos the other day and it was so sad. We were hot! I wish I was that ‘fat’ now. So that’s kind of my aim - to be healthy and if get down to that weight again I’ll be happy.

Anyway, I’m going to start out slowish. I have a huge library of exercise videos and I think I will start with Jillian Michael’s Beginner workouts and also use my treadmill and my spin bike. My dilemma is that I have plantar fasciitis so walking a lot is quite painful, but also the spin bike has a really hard seat. Really hard. See how I go. I also wouldn’t mind starting yoga to get some more balance in my life, but maybe not this week.

For my diet I’m going to stay away from alcohol, sugar, caffeine, and overly processed foods. Fresh is best.

Wish me luck.
